Coronation Street fans are asking if the show has become too focused on crime, and Kit and Lisa are now at the centre of that debate. Viewers feel the police station is taking over too many stories, while the old community feeling of Weatherfield is slowly getting lost.
Fans Think Corrie Has Become Too Focused On The Police
The debate started when one viewer asked if Kit and Lisa were partly to blame for Corrie’s decline. They said that, in the last couple of years, the soap has started to feel more like a crime show, almost like The Bill. They also felt this became more obvious after Kit and Lisa joined the show.
The fan said the police station has now become one of the main settings. They also argued that it does not help when Kit and Lisa often seem bad at their jobs. Lisa, especially, still annoys some viewers because of how she treated Roy.

Other fans agreed that the bigger issue is not just the two characters. It is the way the show now uses them. One viewer said, “It’s poor writing and unimaginative producers. Not to mention this tedious obsession with issues.” Another fan mocked the dark tone of recent episodes and wrote, “scenes some viewers may find upsetting TEDIOUS.”
One viewer said they did not blame the actors or the fictional characters directly. However, they did blame the people behind the show. They wrote, “Do I think two fictional characters played by actors doing a job are to blame for the decline? No. Do I think the producers are doing a poor job of balancing storylines and focusing too heavily on topical issues? Yes.” They also said every storyline now feels issue-led instead of character-led.
Viewers Miss The Heart Of Coronation Street
Many fans said the real problem is that Corrie has too many police and hospital stories now. One viewer said, “The characters themselves are not so much the problem, more the focus on everything being either hospital or police related.” They also asked why the show has not done more with Kit and Brody’s relationship, or shown Kit and Lisa building friendships outside work and romance.
The same fan said Corrie should be about community. They missed small, funny moments like Jack Duckworth talking to his birds, characters playing harmless pranks, Schemichael going through the ceiling, and sibling fights that did not end with someone in hospital or arrested.

Another viewer felt the police station could work better if not every case involved someone from the street. They compared it to the knicker factory and said that, when many characters worked there, every factory scene did not have to be directly about the street.
Corrie needs more balance, more humour, and more everyday community life before Weatherfield starts feeling like a police show instead of a soap. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more Coronation Street spoilers and behind-the-scenes updates.
