The cast of Beyond the Gates may spend most of their time delivering high-stakes drama on screen, but off camera they clearly enjoy having a little fun together. Recently, several actors from the soap jumped on a trending “pass the phone” challenge on social media, using the moment to hilariously call out each other’s characters and storylines. The playful video quickly turned into a chain of jokes that longtime viewers of Fairmont Crest instantly understood.
Cast Members Kick Off Playful Pass The Phone Challenge
The challenge began with Lami, who plays Izaiah Hawthorne. He kicked things off by joking that he was “passing the phone to somebody who thinks he can put a cap on and nobody in Fairmont Crest is going to recognize him.”
His jab was aimed squarely at Jibre Hordges, whose character Jacob Hawthorne is currently working undercover while trying to track down the mysterious “Impaler.” Fans have frequently joked online that Jacob’s disguise, which mostly involves wearing a cap, would hardly fool anyone in town.
Hordges continued the chain and joked that he was passing the phone to “someone who wants to be a detective so bad and will never let me do my job.” The comment referenced Jacob’s sister-in-law Kat Richardson, played by Colby Nixon, who spent much of Season 1 conducting her own Nancy Drew-style investigations while trying to uncover what Leslie Thomas did to Laura Peterson.
The Jokes Continue As More Cast Members Join In
Nixon kept the teasing going and quipped that she was passing the phone to “someone in her hoe phase unfortunately,” referring to her on-screen mother Nicole Richardson Dupree, portrayed by Daphnée Duplaix. Recent episodes have shown Nicole navigating life as a newly single woman while sparking romantic tension with both Dr. Kial Rollins and Dr. Carlton.
Duplaix joined the fun by joking she was passing the phone to “somebody when he puts his glasses on he thinks he’s Clark Kent,” which pointed to Bradley “Smitty” Smith, played by Mike Manning. Manning fired back with his own line, saying he was passing the phone to “someone you might want to hide your boyfriend from,” sending it to Ambyr Michelle, whose character Eva once slept with her sister Kat’s boyfriend.
Michelle continued the chain with another dramatic reference, saying she was passing the phone to “somebody who is liable to shoot up your wedding.” The joke referenced Karla Mosley’s character Dani, who famously disrupted her ex-husband’s wedding earlier in the series.
Mosley replied with her own playful comment, passing the phone to “someone who can always hook me up with a date after her boyfriend helps me bury the bodies,” which led to Lauren Buglioli. Buglioli then joked that she was passing the phone to “a reformed playboy,” referring to Andre Richardson, played by Sean Freeman.
Finally, Tamara Tunie, who plays matriarch Anita Dupree, wrapped up the video by passing the phone to everyone who loves Beyond the Gates. She told fans, “Because we love y’all,” before ending the clip with a cheerful message: “And it’s back to work, so pass on the love to everybody. Pass on the love.” Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more Beyond the Gates spoilers.
