Students at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart High School recently enjoyed a very special visit from actress Tamara Tunie. The Beyond the Gates star spent time with the school’s theatre students and led a masterclass where she shared stories from her career and offered advice to young performers.
A Memorable Day For OLSH Theatre Students
OLSH shared photos from the event on social media and thanked Tunie for spending time with the students. According to the school’s post, she shared valuable lessons from her career and gave thoughtful guidance to aspiring actors.
The school also praised Tunie for being kind, generous, and willing to answer questions from students. Many of the young performers were excited to hear firsthand about her experiences in the entertainment industry and the lessons she has learned along the way.
OLSH also thanked MCG Jazz for helping make the visit possible. The organization has partnered with Tunie as an Artist-in-Residence for the 2025-26 season, allowing her to connect with students and local communities throughout the Pittsburgh area.

The visit was especially meaningful because Tunie has strong ties to the Pittsburgh region. She grew up in nearby Homestead, Pennsylvania, and later studied musical theatre at Carnegie Mellon University.
After completing her education, Tunie built an impressive career that spans Broadway, television, and film. Many fans know her from her long-running role on Law & Order: SVU, while others recognize her from projects such as Better Call Saul, Black Earth Rising, and I Wanna Dance with Somebody.
