Coronation Street and Emmerdale fans are facing another week of schedule changes as ITV adjusts its programming for the start of the men’s FIFA World Cup 2026.

After already dealing with disruptions earlier in the week, viewers will have to wait a little longer. Scroll down for more information.

ITV Soaps Pulled From Schedules As World Cup Coverage Begins

Both Coronation Street and Emmerdale were missing from ITV’s schedules on Tuesday because of coverage of the Women’s World Cup qualifiers. While the soaps briefly returned to their usual slots on Wednesday, the interruptions are set to continue. This is because the men’s FIFA World Cup officially gets underway.

ITV will air the tournament’s opening ceremony from 6.15pm tonight, followed by the match between Mexico and South Africa at 7.50pm. As a result, neither Emmerdale nor Coronation Street will be shown.

The disruption will not end tonight. ITV has already confirmed further schedule changes in the coming days. Both soaps will return on Friday with special hour-long episodes, giving viewers a chance to catch up on the stories they have missed.

Additional extended episodes are also scheduled for Monday, June 15, and Tuesday, June 16. However, more changes are expected later in the week, with coverage of the World Cup affecting schedules again on Wednesday, June 17, and Thursday, June 18.

Emmerdale Fans Left Waiting For Charity’s Storyline

The latest scheduling changes come at a crucial moment for Emmerdale viewers, especially those following Charity Dingle’s emotional storyline involving Dr Todd.

For months, Charity has been dealing with blackmail from the doctor. The situation escalated dramatically during Sarah Sugden’s 21st birthday party when Dr Todd sexually assaulted Charity inside her own home.

Despite the trauma she experienced, Charity found the courage to report Dr Todd to the police. However, the case suffered a major setback when authorities released him because of insufficient evidence. The decision left Charity devastated and struggling to move forward.

As Dr Todd continued manipulating and pressuring her, Charity eventually felt forced to withdraw her statement. It left viewers eager to see what happens next when the soap returns to screens. Meanwhile, Coronation Street viewers are also waiting for answers as the investigation into Theo Silverton’s murder continues to develop.
