A familiar face is coming back to Coronation Street, but there is a twist. Jake Parry first appeared on the ITV soap as baby Simon Barlow more than two decades ago. Now, after 23 years, he is returning to the famous Weatherfield set in a brand-new role.
Jake Parry Is Returning To Coronation Street
Coronation Street fans will soon see Jake Parry back on the soap after 23 years. The actor first appeared on the show in 2003, when he played Simon Barlow as a child alongside his twin brother Oscar. This time, Jake will not return as Simon. He is coming back as a new character named Damo. He shared the news on TikTok with a short clip from the show and wrote: “Coronation Street trailer. “Catch me as DAMO next week.”
His return is a big moment because it brings him back to the Weatherfield set after many years. However, Jake has made it clear that this is not a return for Simon Barlow. It is a fresh role with a new character. After Jake posted the clip, one fan asked him to explain whether he was playing Simon again. Jake replied and cleared up the confusion.
He wrote: “For anyone wondering, I played Simon Barlow with my brother when I was a baby. I have now came back as a different character DAMO which is out next week.” Jake and his brother Oscar played Simon Barlow from July to November 2003.
During that time, Daniel Whelan also briefly played the role in episodes that aired in September that year. Simon Barlow later became a long-running character on Coronation Street. Actor Alex Bain most recently played Simon, and the character became well known to many viewers over the years.
Damo’s First Scenes Hint At Trouble
Jake’s new character, Damo, has been described in soap spoilers as a “young man.” For now, not much else has been revealed about him, so fans will have to wait to learn more. The short video already gives viewers a small hint of drama. In the clip, Damo gets into a scuffle with another man, which suggests his arrival may bring trouble to Weatherfield.
Since his first time on Coronation Street, Jake has worked on many other acting projects. He has appeared in the BBC Three drama Red Rose and has also been part of commercials for brands such as Taco Bell, FIFA, and Microsoft. Jake and his brother Oscar have both continued acting over the years. They have appeared in shows including Doctors, Mount Pleasant, Get Even 2, Dodger, and The Other One.
The twins have also worked together in a Domino’s advert. A behind-the-scenes video shared on social media showed them racing to the door to collect a pizza. They wrote with the clip: “It was a privilege and honour to work alongside some of the crew from BARBIE, HARRY POTTER, STAR WARS and SPIDER-MAN.”
