Gemma and Chesney Winter-Brown already have a lot on their plate in Coronation Street as they raise five children while also trying to manage their jobs.
Now, a problem involving Joseph’s schoolwork leads to even worse news, leaving the couple worried about his future and their family’s finances. Scroll down for more information.
Joseph Starts Falling Behind At School
The trouble begins next week when Joseph Brown nervously hands Gemma and Chesney his school report. He quickly leaves before they can finish reading it. Soon, they notice something worrying. Joseph has often been late with his homework and is starting to fall behind.
Joseph goes to a private school, and his grandmother Linda Hancock pays the tuition fees. Linda is the mother of Joseph’s late mum, Katy Armstrong. Katy died in a car accident in 2017, and Linda has continued to play an important role in Joseph’s life.
After reading the report, Gemma speaks to Bernie Winter about Joseph’s struggles. She says he finds it hard to concentrate on his homework at home because he has four younger siblings around him.
Bernie then offers a simple solution. She suggests Joseph could come to No. 7 and do his homework there in peace, and Chesney is thankful for the help.
Coronation Street: Linda Shares More Bad News About Joseph’s School
Chesney’s relief does not last long because he soon hears from Linda. He later goes to the Rovers and tells Gemma that Linda’s holiday rental business has gone bust. She can no longer afford to pay Joseph’s private school fees. Chesney does not want to cause more problems for Joseph by moving him to another school.
He tells Gemma that he has been looking into taking out a loan so they can pay the fees themselves and keep Joseph at his current school. Bernie is horrified when she hears about the plan. She fears Gemma and Chesney could end up in serious debt. Bernie and Linda have also clashed before over Linda’s careless spending, so the latest news leaves Bernie even more upset.
The next day, the situation takes an unexpected turn. Gemma and Chesney tell Joseph that Linda has managed to find the money to pay his tuition fees after all. For now, it appears he can stay at his private school. However, the news leaves one big question unanswered.
Gemma and Chesney may no longer need to take out a loan, but Linda’s sudden change in fortune is hard to ignore. Where has she found the money for Joseph’s school fees? Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more Coronation Street spoilers and behind-the-scenes updates.
