Coronation Street is set to introduce a new character as the drama surrounding Megan Walsh continues to unfold. Although Megan’s exit from the soap is on the horizon, the consequences of her actions are still being felt across Weatherfield.

Megan’s Victims Continue To Deal With The Fallout
Over the past few months, Megan Walsh has been at the centre of one of Coronation Street’s most disturbing storylines. Megan groomed her student, Will Driscoll, and later became pregnant with his baby. During the ordeal, she and Will pressured Sam Blakeman into keeping quiet about what had happened.
Sam eventually found the courage to speak to the police, leading to Megan’s arrest. However, investigators initially did not have enough evidence to charge her. The case only moved forward when Will finally decided to speak openly about his relationship with Megan.
News later reached Weatherfield that Megan had been released. In recent scenes, she attempted to contact Will again, showing that her influence had not completely disappeared.
Last month, reports confirmed that actress Beth Nixon would be leaving the soap, though details of Megan’s final storyline have not yet been revealed.
Megan’s Mother Makes Her Weatherfield Debut In Coronation Street
The next chapter of the storyline will see Megan’s mother Janine arrive in Weatherfield. Melissa Jacques has been cast in the role, and her arrival is expected to spark strong reactions from those who have seen first-hand the damage Megan has caused.
Speaking to TV Times magazine, Catherine Tyldesley explained how Janine’s arrival affects the people around her. She said: “When Janine reveals who she is, it’s like a red rag to a bull for Ben.”
Tyldesley added: “Janine tries to apologise on behalf of Megan; she is bewildered as to why this happened. But, sometimes, people grow up in normal, loving families and things go extremely wrong. That’s what Eva sees.
“She’s like, ‘It’s not Janine’s fault.’ Then you’ve got Maggie, who’s like, ‘Well, Megan has learnt this behaviour from someone!'” As Janine tries to make sense of her daughter’s actions, residents will be divided over whether she deserves sympathy or blame.
A Dark Road Lies Ahead For Megan And Will In Coronation Street
Series producer Kate Brooks has already teased that there is much more to come from the storyline. She explained that the focus will remain on the families trying to rebuild their lives after everything that has happened. “It’s about the family falling apart, but then kind of building themselves back up again as they try desperately to kind of repair the damage that Megan’s done,” Brooks revealed.
Brooks also confirmed that Megan will not escape the consequences of her actions. She said: “Obviously, there are soap Gods, and as in soap God’s law, there’ll be some kind of retribution for Megan. She cannot get off of this scot-free. We will go down the proper channels.
“Whether it goes on to plan or not, I cannot say, but it goes down quite a very big path. Will will be quite badly affected by what he’s been through with Megan. It does go a bit dark as well.”
