Debbie Webster puts on a brave face in Coronation Street, but behind closed doors, her world is quietly falling apart. As she tries to drown her emotions at the Bistro, a drunken outburst catches Abi off guard—leading to a moment where Debbie nearly reveals the heartbreaking truth she’s been hiding for weeks.
Debbie Reaches Her Limit
In recent months, fans have seen Debbie Webster gradually fall apart as worrying symptoms started to get the better of her. After secretly attending a private hospital, doctors sent her to see a neurologist, worried something was seriously wrong.
The worst was confirmed when the neurologist diagnosed her with early stages of dementia, delivering the crushing blow that there’s no drug to stop the disease.
Debbie has revealed nothing to anyone since then—except her estranged half-brother Carl. Not even her partner, Ronnie Bailey, knows the truth.
In future episodes, Debbie’s anguish starts to come to a head. Still hurting over her split from Ronnie—whom she drove away to spare him the burden of caring for her—she goes to the Viaduct Bistro to drink away her sorrows in vodka.
Abi Attempts to Console Debbie in Coronation Street
Abi Webster picks up on the fact that something’s amiss when Debbie begins knocking back alcohol. The subject turns to Kevin Webster’s recent cancer diagnosis, and Debbie confesses she once had reservations about Abi and Kevin’s relationship.
Abi is amused when Debbie calls her a “dodgy piece of work,” but her mood changes when Debbie gets sentimental and says Kevin is lucky to have Abi with him.
The sentimental moment takes a turn when Debbie bursts out crying, “It’s so unfair.”
Though she starts off speaking about Kevin, it becomes clear she’s referring to herself. Her emotions crack through the surface as she admits she just wants to drink and forget. But she then falters as she realises what she’s revealing.
A Confession Nearly Made
Abi sits patiently as Debbie begins to come clean. Thinking that there’s more at play, Abi eases her in gently. And, Debbie starts to reveal to her she’s received some bad news. It looks like she’s finally going to tell her her diagnosis.
But before the moment comes, Carl walks in—shattering the cozy chat. The question now is: will Debbie reveal herself to Abi, or draw back into secrecy?
