When a villain is as menacing as Mick Michaelis, it’s easy to assume the actor behind him sounds just as terrifying. But Coronation Street fans were floored this week when they heard Joe Layton speak in real life and it turns out, he’s anything but rough around the edges.
The Voice Behind the Villain
Joe was featured in a humorous social media clip with co-actors Farrel Hegarty and Jacob Roberts, along with a few returnees from the flashback episode. The actors were enjoying themselves with a 2007-themed quiz, but fans couldn’t get enough of Joe’s accent.
Used to the Northern no-nonsense growl of Mick, theaudience were shocked by the polished sound of Joe’s voice. On Twitter, many called his actual voice “posh,” saying that they wished he’d spoken like that on the show. One fan said that they couldn’t get over the difference in his voice, while one viewer commented that if they didn’t like Mick but did like Joe, then it means that he’s doing a great job.
As Mick’s Charm Drops, the Violence Escalates
Mick has already been causing mayhem on the cobblestones, beating up Sean Tully, bullying Liam Connor, and getting into brawls with everyone from Gary Windass to Debbie Webster. But now his behaviour could cost someone their life.
As part of the special week, the audience will see Craig Tinker begin his CID placement shadowing Kit Green. Craig enters to make a good impression, but with Kit preoccupied with secrets and regrets, he dismisses Craig.
Craig’s Big Week on Coronation Street Becomes a Nightmare
When there is a report of a disturbance, Craig rushes off alone, trying to prove himself. Everything goes awry from there. Maria discovers him badly hurt and covered in blood. In the hospital, Lisa Swain reports he has swelling on the brain. Though Craig regains consciousness for a moment and attempts to speak, it happens very fast.
All this is set against the sinister background of Kit and Mick’s dark past. The latest trailer hints at a flashback to 2007, indicating how close these two actually are.
Kit looks burdened with guilt, and Mick looks more menacing than ever. When Craig is hanging on by a thread, it becomes obvious that it’s the consequence of a decade of secrets. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more on the most intense week of Coronation Street yet.
