“This Doesn’t Add Up!” Coronation Street Fans Slam ‘Weird’ Error In Debbie Webster Plot

By Roy

Coronation Street fans aren’t just heartbroken over the Corriedale crash aftermath; they’re annoyed, too. As Debbie Webster prepares for a possible prison sentence, viewers have spotted what they’re calling a “weird” error in her storyline, and they’re refusing to accept the show’s version of events. In their eyes, Corrie is acting like the entire tragedy sits on Debbie’s shoulders, even though the crash itself was a full-blown chain reaction.

Fans Say Corrie Is Forcing The Blame Onto Debbie

Debbie has been left facing time behind bars for her role in the multi-vehicle pile-up that killed Weatherfield vicar Billy Mayhew. The dramatic crash unfolded during Coronation Street’s big crossover with Emmerdale, dubbed Corriedale, and it all started when tensions boiled over between Debbie and her half-brother, Carl. Carl tried to flee Weatherfield after Abi Webster confronted him at Debbie’s wedding venue in Yorkshire.

Debbie didn’t want Carl to go. So she got into the car with him, and on the stormy road between Hotten and Weatherfield. She looked ready to tell him something serious before the situation spiralled out of control.

Carl lost control of the car and ploughed into wreckages already piled up from earlier crashes involving Becky, Lisa and Betsy Swain, and Emmerdale’s Aaron Dingle and John Sugden. To make things even worse, a minibus full of Debbie’s wedding guests also ended up caught in the chaos, turning the incident into a full-scale disaster.

Fans Say The Soap Is Ignoring The Real Chain Of Events

During Friday’s episode, Debbie started getting her affairs in order as she expected a prison sentence. At the same time, Billy’s body arrived at Shuttleworth’s funeral parlour earlier than expected, just as Todd Grimshaw and Summer Spellman walked down the cobbles.

Summer later vented to Asha Alahan about Billy’s death and blamed Debbie. But the moment that really pushed fans over the edge came when Summer spotted Debbie laughing with her new husband Ronnie and confronted her in the Street.

CS/ Summer slaps Debbie

“Billy’s my dad and he’s lying in the undertaker’s, thanks to you, and you think it’s funny?”. She snapped, before calling Debbie “disgusting” and insisting it “should be murder.” Debbie apologised, but Summer slapped her across the face anyway. And this is exactly where fans say the “weird” error becomes impossible to ignore. Viewers argued the show is treating it like Debbie alone caused Billy’s death. Plus Todd’s abusive boyfriend Theo Silverton trapping Billy in the minibus moments before it exploded.

On social media, @Melody81421958 said it felt strange that a crash involving “a whole pile up with several cars” was being framed as Debbie’s fault. They added that even if Carl was drink-driving, they still couldn’t see how it all landed on him or Debbie. A user @RyanSoapKing25 also fumed that Summer was blaming the wrong person. They pointed out that Carl moved Debbie into the driver’s seat and Theo left Billy to die. Other viewers brought up even more details the soap seems to be brushing past. Fans are also debating the exact moment the tragedy became fatal. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more Coronation Street spoilers.
