Coronation Street fans could soon see a familiar face return to Weatherfield. Elaine Jones left the cobbles a few years ago, but with a huge new storyline coming up for Tim and Sally Metcalfe, many viewers are now wondering if Elaine could come back to support her son during a difficult time.
Paula Wilcox Says Elaine Could Return To Coronation Street
Paula Wilcox joined Coronation Street in 2020 as Elaine Jones, the mother of Tim Metcalfe. Elaine had spent years away from Weatherfield after escaping her abusive husband Geoff Metcalfe.
Before changing her name to Elaine, she was known as Phillipa. After Tim was born, she tried to leave Geoff because of his abuse. However, Geoff stopped her from taking Tim with her. Elaine later divorced Geoff, changed her name, and settled down in Bolton.
Elaine returned to Weatherfield after reading about Yasmeen Nazir attacking Geoff and later going to prison. When Elaine met Yasmeen, she realised they had both suffered because of Geoff. Elaine later gave evidence against him in court, which helped clear Yasmeen’s name.
After Geoff died, Elaine spent time rebuilding her relationship with Tim. In 2023, she left the cobbles for Scarborough after learning that her partner Stephen Reid had secretly taken out a life insurance policy in her name. Since the soap never killed Elaine off, fans have always known she could return one day.
A Big New Challenge Is Coming For Tim And Sally
Paula Wilcox recently admitted that she would happily return to Coronation Street if the right story came along. Speaking about a possible comeback, she said, “If there’s a terrific storyline, I’d love to go back. I loved working with Joe and Sally”.
She also praised her co-stars and explained why Elaine could easily return to Weatherfield. Paula added, “They were so good, so much fun and so clever. There’s no reason why Elaine couldn’t come back. She’s still Tim’s mother after all. He can’t get rid of her!”.
According to Kate, the couple will soon face a situation that changes their lives and pushes them to their limits “There’s a massive story for Sally and Tim that comes to the to the fore, and it’s a story that tests them as people, test them as a couple, but tests them as foster parents as well”, Kate explained.
Fans have already started guessing what the big twist could be. Some viewers believe Tim may discover he has a child connected to his abuser, Trisha. If that theory turns out to be true, Elaine could return to help Tim through another painful chapter connected to Geoff and the past he tried so hard to escape.
