New Sainsbury’s Stores Hit Cobbles
Weatherfield is getting a significant update with the arrival of a new Sainsbury’s supermarket. This shiny new store replaces the old Co-op on Victoria Street, where locals have been shopping for six years. And guess what?
Argos, which is part of Sainsbury’s, first teamed up with the show in 2021, and it was announced earlier this year that it would stay in Weatherfield until 2026. From now on, these iconic shopfronts will keep popping up on screen, and you’ll even see characters using their Bag For Life while shopping.
After signing the deal, Sainsbury’s head of campaigns, Laura Boothby, remarked that continuing their sponsorship of Corrie was a natural choice given the show’s iconic status and popularity with their customers. She hoped the new store would bring a sense of familiarity and enjoyment to viewers at home.
She hinted at the possibility of seeing Ken Barlow using Click & Collect for a new kettle. When the deal was announced, soap fans quickly took to X to share their thoughts. One user expressed concern about how Dev would manage to stay in business with a nearby Sainsbury’s Local opening.
Another commented, “SAINSBURY’S?!!!? Goodness me I’ve not watched Corrie for YEARS.” In the place of the Co-Op store, we see a big ‘Coming Soon’ sign with the Argos and Sainsbury’s logos. Back in 2018, the Co-Op and Costa Coffee joined Victoria Street.
