Charity’s Next Step Brings A Familiar Face Into The Story

Emmerdale viewers have been left heartbroken by Charity Dingle’s recent storyline after she was sexually assaulted by Dr Caitlin Todd. The upsetting scenes aired recently and showed Charity trapped with the villain before the attack took place.

In Monday’s episode, Charity found the courage to report the incident to the police. As she sat down to tell her story, many viewers recognised the officer who was listening to her.

CS/ DS Reid in Emmerdale

The character, DS Reid, is played by Angela Lonsdale. Soap fans will remember Angela from Coronation Street, where she played police officer Emma Taylor for three years before leaving the show in 2003.

Angela became a well-known face during her time on the cobbles. Emma was involved in several memorable storylines, including her romance and marriage to Corrie favourite Curly Watts. Although the couple left Weatherfield together, it was later revealed in 2010 that they had split up after moving away.

More Than Two Decades After Corrie Exit

Now, 23 years after leaving Coronation Street, Angela has returned to soap screens in another police role. In Emmerdale, she plays specialist detective DS Reid, who helps Charity as she begins dealing with the aftermath of the assault.

DS Reid supports Charity through the process of reporting the crime and seeking justice. The character arrives at a crucial moment as Charity starts to confront what has happened to her.

Angela’s guest appearance comes as Emmerdale tackles a storyline that producers say will explore the “complexities” of same-sex sexual assault. The show announced the storyline last week and explained that it will focus on issues that are rarely discussed on television.
