Kenneth Cope, beloved for his roles on British TV, sadly passed away at 93. Cope’s career spanned over six decades, known to millions as Jed Stone in Coronation Street and Marty Hopkirk in Randall and Hopkirk. The actor left a lasting legacy in British culture. His family confirmed the heartbreaking news. Fans and colleagues have paid tribute to the TV legend.

Kenneth Cope has passed away at the age of 93. His agent, Sandra Chalmers, confirmed the news on X, referring to Cope as a “true icon.” The actor’s family expressed deep sorrow as they announced his passing on September 11, 2024. They stated, “Ken passed away yesterday peacefully in his sleep with his wife and family by his side.”

The family also highlighted his remarkable legacy as a British TV and film icon. He was known for his roles as Marty Hopkirk in Randall and Hopkirk, Jed Stone in Corrie, and his work with the Carry On team. His career contributed to several iconic moments in British culture.

He began his career in theatre and soon took on many film and TV roles. Along with the family, the star’s fans are deeply affected. One fan expressed their farewell, highlighting his role in Randall and Hopkirk. They even called the series ahead of its time. 

Another added, “It’s goodbye to the brilliant Kenneth Cope – who has, really, left this mortal coil this time.” Many others sent their condolences, too. In Corrie, he first appeared as Jed Stone in 1966 and came back in 2008 after a 42-year break for a storyline with Tony Gordon.

He stayed on the show for a few months before being written out, returning only for a special episode in 2014. The soap star was adored for his starring roles in Carry On at Your Convenience, Carry On Matron, Hammer horror film The Damned, TV in Minder, The Avengers, and the Doctor Who episode Warriors’ Gate.  

The icon married actress Renny Lister in 1961, with whom he worked on Coronation Street. They had two sons, Nick and Mark.
