Coronation Street is about to put Betsy Swain at the heart of a major new storyline, and the Connor-Swain family will face some deeply worrying scenes. Betsy will be rushed to hospital after a sudden collapse, while Dylan Wilson soon finds himself blamed for what happened.
The cast have been dropping hints about the story for months, and now new spoilers reveal just how serious things are about to become. Scroll down for more information.
Betsy And Dylan’s Big Story Has Been Teased For Months
Liam McCheyne, who plays Dylan, first spoke about the storyline earlier this year. He told Inside Soap: “It’s going to be quite a big 2026. I’ve got a nice storyline to get my teeth stuck into, which is great.
“It’ll be quite a lot of work with Sydney [Martin, who plays Betsy]. It’s very coming of age. It’s a subject storyline, which is obviously Corrie’s speciality – it’s one thing the show is amazing at. So I’m very excited for that.”
A few weeks later, Sydney Martin also shared some details about what viewers could expect. Speaking about Betsy and Dylan, she said: “Dylan and Betsy have been through a lot together. There’s beautiful moments to come. They’re polar opposites – she’s this ticking time bomb that could go off at any time, and he’s quite grounded and sweet.
“That can create some quite funny scenes, because there’s that natural comedic element of them being so different, but also some beautiful ones. I’m also excited for Liam to get his chance to shine.” Sydney added: “It’s always been great to support my on-screen mums and family, now I get to pave my own way. I’ve been working hard, so I’m really excited for people to see it. It’s going to be a busy summer.”
Betsy’s Collapse Leaves Her Family Terrified
Vicky Myers later confirmed that she would also have a big part in the story. When asked if Lisa would be involved, she replied: “Massively! Well, I’m saying massively because she is Betsy’s mother. So if Betsy’s involved, I think it’s safe to say that Lisa will be somewhere looking over her shoulder!
“But what’s to come is huge and I’m looking forward to getting started with it. That is extremely powerful but I can’t say much about it. It is going to be brilliant. “I’m really excited for both of them – both Liam and Sydney – because it’s something that is going to be challenging for them. “But they have the skills and talent to showcase it, so I’m excited – if that’s the right word!”
Official spoilers have now revealed how the crisis begins. Ryan finds Betsy unconscious on the kitchen floor at No.6 and quickly calls an ambulance. At the hospital, doctors send Betsy for an MRI scan. However, the situation gets even worse when she later suffers a seizure.
Dylan Faces Blame As Betsy Gets A Life-Changing Diagnosis in Coronation Street
As the difficult day continues, Dylan is shocked to learn that Lisa believes he is responsible for what happened to Betsy. The exact reason for her suspicion is still unknown. However, by the end of the week, Dylan feels reluctant to visit Betsy in hospital. Lauren Bolton also turns against him and refuses to serve Dylan and Sean at The Rovers after news of the incident spreads. Lisa then reports the situation as a crime, while Dylan tries to suggest that Brody could be responsible.
ITV has also released a new promo for the storyline. In the clip, Carla arrives at the hospital and finds Lisa sitting beside Betsy’s bed. An ITV spokesperson teased: “What has happened to Betsy? And why does Dylan find himself in the firing line as her condition worsens?
“All will be revealed as Lisa demands answers and accusations fly, whilst Betsy tries to come to terms with her life changing diagnosis…”. More details are still being kept secret, although there have been hints that Coronation Street could be exploring a subject that soaps have not covered before.
