Coronation Street fans are about to see a different side of Nick Tilsley as a new arrival turns his world upside down. While Nick is already struggling with challenges involving his son Sam Blakeman, things become even more complicated when Leanne Battersby starts building a connection with newcomer Idris Nazir.
Nick Finds Leanne’s New Romance Hard To Accept
Nick and Leanne have shared a long history together. Even though they are no longer a couple and Nick is now with Toyah Battersby, he still has feelings for his ex-wife. After all, the pair were married twice. Things become even more complicated when Leanne starts falling for Idris Nazir. The new arrival quickly makes an impression in Weatherfield, and his growing bond with Leanne leaves Nick struggling with his emotions.
The situation becomes even tougher because Idris also develops a connection with Sam. As Sam continues dealing with his own problems, he begins opening up to Idris. Seeing that relationship grow is not easy for Nick. Speaking about the storyline, Ben Price said: “That’s quite painful for Nick. He finds it very difficult. Idris has come in and you will see Sam opening up to him, and Nick then feels quite lost before getting angry and protective.”
Sam’s Connection With Idris Changes Everything
Price explained that Nick understands why teenagers sometimes find it easier to talk to someone outside their immediate family. Even so, watching Sam turn to Idris instead of him is painful. “He also recognises, in a sad way, that maybe he’s not completely rounded. With teenagers going through any sort of angst, the last person they often speak to is their key caregiver,” added the actor.
Price went on to explain why this situation is so difficult for Nick. Not only is Idris becoming close to Sam, but he is also becoming Leanne’s new love interest. That combination brings up a lot of emotions for Nick. “If there’s someone else who’s removed from it, they can talk to them. But it’s hard for the parents to stand by and watch that, particularly when it’s a new love interest for someone. There’s a lot wrapped up in those emotions,” said Price.
Although Leanne has had relationships since splitting from Nick, he has never been too bothered by them. However, Idris is different, and Nick cannot ignore him so easily. As these relationships grow stronger, he will have to face feelings of jealousy, worry and insecurity that are becoming harder to hide.
