Next week will be a huge one on Coronation Street as Megan Walsh finally goes on trial for grooming school pupil Will Driscoll. While the family hopes the court case will bring justice, the emotional damage has already changed their lives.
Aaron McCusker, who plays Ben Driscoll, has now revealed how the Megan storyline has broken trust within the family and why another major change is about to make things even more difficult. Scroll down for more information.
The Megan Trial Has Changed Everything For The Driscoll Family
Next week’s episodes will focus on Megan Walsh’s trial after she was accused of grooming pupil Will Driscoll. Will is expected to make the brave choice to speak in court as the family hopes to finally get justice. But even before the trial reaches its end, the case has already had a huge impact on everyone around him.
Aaron McCusker explained that the family is struggling to stay united. He said, “[Things are] fractured. Ollie thinks Ben is handling the Will situation wrong and went behind his back to call Will’s mom. This leads to arguing, and ultimately he will leave to work for a new boss, Idris, who Ben doesn’t trust.”
The actor also shared that Megan’s actions have damaged the family’s trust. “The Megan situation has affected the entire family dynamic trust. It’s difficult because our relationship is a bit flawed right now,” he said.
Ben and Ollie’s disagreement becomes even bigger when Ollie decides to leave and work for Idris, despite Ben’s concerns about him.
Ben Finds Support From Eva And Maggie
While Ben is falling out with Ollie, his relationship with Eva Price has become much stronger. McCusker said Eva has been there for Ben whenever he needs someone during this difficult time.
“It’s brought them closer. When Ben’s down, she’s the one pulling him up,” McCusker explained. “They are very strong. I think it has given the audience a bit of an illustration of just what a united couple they are. It has also brought Ben and Maggie a little closer again, though he won’t ever forget what she did.”
Even though there are problems within the family, the Driscolls will come together during the trial to support Will. They all want to stand by him as he faces one of the hardest moments of his life.
Tim Steps Up For Will And Ben In Coronation Street
Tim Metcalfe has also become an important source of support for Will. Throughout the storyline, he has helped Will stay calm and stopped him from making bad decisions during a very emotional time.
McCusker praised Tim’s role, saying, “Tim has been great. He’s talked Will down when he was going to do things he shouldn’t. It has worked well. It’s an unspoken acknowledgment. Ben lets him know that he appreciates what he’s done.”
The actor also said that Ben and Tim have become much closer because of everything they have been through together. “Their relationship has strengthened because of it. Previously, Tim felt like he had his nose pushed out a bit with Steve and Ben growing closer, but now they are more of a band of brothers.”
As the trial continues, that friendship could become even more important for the Driscoll family. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more Coronation Street spoilers and behind-the-scenes updates.
