Todd Grimshaw may have stepped away from Theo Silverton for now, but the emotional pull between them is far from over in Coronation Street.
Actor Gareth Pierce has opened up about the deeply sad reasons why Todd still finds himself drawn back to Theo, even after months of emotional and physical abuse. According to Pierce, Todd’s connection to Theo is not simply about love, it stems from manipulation, isolation, and Todd’s lingering belief that the man he once fell for could still change.
Gareth Pierce Reveals Why Todd Still Feels Tied To Theo
When Theo Silverton first arrived on the cobbles last year, he quickly caught the attention of Todd Grimshaw. The attraction between them was obvious, but Theo initially insisted that he wasn’t gay. That hesitation later made sense when viewers discovered the painful truth about his past; Theo had been forced to undergo conversion therapy when he was younger.
At that time, Theo was still married to Danielle and raising children with her. However, meeting Todd pushed him to confront emotions he had buried for years.
Their connection slowly developed, and Todd truly believed he could help Theo face his trauma and move forward.
That belief is one of the key reasons Todd stayed in the relationship for so long. Gareth Pierce explained that Todd sees himself as someone who has changed and grown over time. Because of that, he tends to believe other people can change as well. That optimism kept Todd invested in Theo, even as the relationship began to deteriorate.
The Emotional Damage That Keeps Todd Drawn Back
As the relationship progressed, Theo’s behaviour became increasingly disturbing. Instead of working through his issues, he began directing his anger and insecurity toward Todd. The abuse escalated into both psychological and physical attacks.
Theo humiliated Todd by pouring a bottle of milk over his head, smashed his face into a mirror, and even threatened him with a knife. These incidents revealed just how dangerous the situation had become.
Pierce explained that Theo’s actions were part of a larger pattern designed to break Todd down. Theo frequently criticised Todd’s diet, body-shamed him, and forced him into running while constantly belittling him. Financial control and intimidation also became tools he used to maintain power in the relationship.
The actor also pointed out that Theo worked deliberately to isolate Todd. He said Theo had actively cut Todd off from the people closest to him and even managed to push Billy out of Todd’s life, something Todd doesn’t fully realise yet. All of this gradually destroyed Todd’s confidence and made him feel as if he had no escape, which is why he still feels emotionally pulled back toward Theo.
