Coronation Street star Sam Aston has shared some sweet words about his young co-star Will Flanagan ahead of Joseph Winter-Brown’s return. Joseph has been missing from recent scenes, but he will soon be back with a new school problem.
At the same time, Sam has revealed how close he and Will have become away from the cameras. Keep scrolling to learn more.
Joseph Returns With A New School Problem
Joseph will return to the screen next week after being absent from recent episodes. A new storyline begins when the family learns that his grandmother, Linda Hancock, can no longer pay his private school fees.
However, Joseph’s father Chesney manages to find the money, meaning his place at Oakhill School is safe. Even so, Joseph now needs to work harder. He previously received a bad report after failing to do his homework, so the big question is whether he will now put in more effort and do well at school.
Speaking exclusively to Inside Soap, Sam had nothing but praise for Will’s work and also spoke warmly about their friendship. “Will is absolutely top,” Sam grins. “He’s a really nice lad and he’s become one of my best little pals. Every now and again, we might go and play golf or something like that.
Coronation Street: Sam And Will Have Become Good Friends
Sam and Will’s friendship has also created a funny running joke with Dolly-Rose Campbell. Sam explained that Dolly-Rose often teases him for being an old soul and even calls him “Old man Chesney.”
Now that Will has started enjoying golf too, Dolly-Rose thinks Sam is rubbing off on him. “Dolly-Rose [Campbell, aka Gemma] takes the mick, actually, because I’m a bit of an old soul, and she calls me, ‘Old man Chesney.’ Now Will’s getting into golf, and he’s a little bit of an old soul, she’s like, ‘You’ve turned him into old man Chesney!'”
Their friendship clearly goes beyond filming. Sam said Will has become one of his “best little pals,” and the pair sometimes spend time together playing golf.
More Trouble Could Be Coming For Chesney And Gemma
Sam also spoke about what may be ahead for Chesney and Gemma. The couple have been through many difficult times together, so they rarely seem to enjoy good luck for long. Still, Sam likes seeing them happy as a family, even if he also enjoys filming the bigger drama.
“It’s nice when they’re a happy family,” Sam says. “They’ve been through a lot between the two of them. But it’s always fun to film some of the drama, so as long as Chesney’s there, I’m happy either way. We’ll have to see; obviously they don’t get lucky, do they, let’s be honest!”
For now, Joseph’s return will put the Winter-Brown family back in the spotlight. Chesney has managed to save his son’s place at Oakhill School, but Joseph still needs to prove that he can work hard and improve his school performance.
