Maria Connor is heading into one of the toughest moments of her life in Coronation Street. After weeks of worrying about Gary Windass and his growing closeness to Sarah Platt, Maria finally decides she can no longer stay silent.
As her suspicions explode during a dramatic dinner party, actor Samia Longchambon has revealed why this storyline could be the biggest challenge Maria and Gary have ever faced. Dive in for more details.
Why Maria Thinks Gary Has Betrayed Her
Maria has had a difficult time finding lasting happiness over the years. Since arriving on Coronation Street more than two decades ago, she has been through several failed relationships and marriages. Her strongest relationship has been with Gary Windass, who has stood by her through many difficult times.
Gary was a huge support when Liam Connor suffered a terrible bullying ordeal. He helped Maria fight for her son when Liam struggled to get the support he needed. Even though Gary has made mistakes in the past, Maria has always believed he was loyal to her.
That trust is now falling apart. Samia Longchambon explained: “She’s known for a few weeks that something is definitely not right between her and Gary.”
She added: “She’s been clocking these little sneaky conversations he’s been having with Sarah, and she’s put two and two together. She’s just convinced that they must be sleeping together.”
Coronation Street: Maria Makes Her Move At The Dinner Party
Maria’s suspicions grow stronger as Gary and Sarah continue acting strangely after Theo Silverton’s murder. The pair have been keeping secrets after discovering the builder’s abuse of Todd Grimshaw, but Maria does not know the full story.
When Kit Green invites everyone to a dinner party, Maria sees the perfect chance to speak her mind. Sarah and Gary are both on the guest list, along with Todd Grimshaw and Summer Spellman. During the evening, Maria uses a toast as an opportunity to publicly accuse Gary and Sarah of having an affair.
Talking about Maria’s feelings in that moment, Samia said: “She’s relieved to finally just get it off her chest because it’s been building up for so long.” She continued: “She’s also incredibly angry at them both because she thinks they’ve been pulling the wool over her and Kit’s eyes. But towards the end of the dinner party, you see that she’s just really hurt. Beneath it all, she’s actually a heartbroken woman who thinks she’s lost her man.”
The confrontation quickly spirals out of control. The dinner party ends in chaos, with broken glass scattered around and blood splashed across the table. However, she still believes they have a chance if they can overcome this latest obstacle. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more Coronation Street spoilers and behind-the-scenes updates.
