Just as Coronation Street viewers thought one of 2024‘s greatest shocks had been laid to rest, there’s another surprise on the way. A particular baddie, long thought to be gone for good, is making a return—and it‘s putting the cobbles on fire.
Joel Deering: Back from the Dead?
Yes, you’ve read it correctly. Calum Lill, the scheming Joel Deering, is set to return to Corrie – despite being murdered in a dramatic on-screen twist last year. The Sun reports that he‘ll be returning for a temporary stint, but how he returns remains a secret.
Is it flashbacks? A dream sequence? Something even more mind-blowing? The show is keeping it all under wraps for the moment. Coronation Street hasn‘t said anything officially, and that just fuels the fan theories.
The Epic Murder of Coronation Street
Joel’s murder was among the largest of 2024‘s storylines. He met a gruesome end in September, following months of shoddy behaviour, fibs, and deception.
The whodunit had viewers in stitches until Lauren Bolton—aided by Max Turner—was ultimately revealed as the mastermind behind the sensational murder. It was a Corrie slow-burn classic mystery, and the reveal left jaws dropped.
Calum Lill Describes Exit from Coronation Street as ‘Bittersweet’
Calum Lill, who had initially played Joel in September 2023, made a comment after his last scenes were aired. He told that exiting the soap was a bittersweet experience. According to him, things were getting very juicy for an actor but he knew that everything was moving towards the peak.
He also confessed it was hard to leave a job that was such a second home. In the past 18 months, he‘d formed some of his best friendships on the set and describedCorrie as “the most amazing place to work.” Following his stint on Corrie, Lill slid effortlessly back to the stage where he appeared as panto baddie Fleshcreep in the production of Jack & the Beanstalk at Bournemouth Pavilion
Lauren’s in Hot Water Again
Back in modern-day Weatherfield, Lauren Bolton just can‘t help getting herself into trouble. She took Tracy McDonald‘s van out for a drive lately—with Betsy Swain along for the ride—even though she has no licence. They quickly went off the rails when Lauren lost her grip and wrecked the van.
Somehow, she escaped the blowbackwhen Betsy became the scapegoat during questioning by the police. But Lauren maynot be off the hook yet. Someone out there is aware that she was driving. And their silence may not last forever.
With Joel’s enigmatic comeback on the horizon and Lauren‘s fibs catching up with her, the Weatherfield drama is about to hit the roof. We will keep you posted regarding Joel’s comeback in Coronation Street and Lauren’s future in the soap on Soap Opera Daily. Stay tuned!
