Summer Spellman is no longer behind bars in Coronation Street, but her life is still falling apart. After being wrongly accused of Theo Silverton’s murder, she has been left emotionally broken.
Now, upcoming episodes show Summer making shocking decisions that leave her closest friends fearing that she is heading down a dangerous path. Dive in for more information.
Why Summer Was Accused Of Murder
Summer Spellman’s nightmare started when the police believed she had killed Theo Silverton. She had a strong reason to hate him because he abused Todd Grimshaw and left Billy Mayhew to die. Before Theo was murdered, he also threatened Summer during a frightening meeting at his flat. He told her, “I guess Summer had to end some time.”
Although viewers know Summer is innocent, she still does not know who really killed Theo. The police found several things that made her look guilty. They discovered her diary, which included thoughts about pointing a gun at Theo. During her interview with DS Lisa Connor-Swain, Summer said Theo was still alive when she left his flat.
The case against Summer became even stronger when Tyrone Dobbs refused to tell the police where she had been that night. He stayed quiet because he did not want to get into trouble over Carl Webster’s garage accident.
Summer was also getting ready to move to America for her studies, so the police believed she might be planning to escape.
Summer Reached Her Lowest Point
As the pressure grew, Summer felt she had no hope left. She switched off her insulin pump because she believed she would not survive life in prison.
She was rushed to hospital, where she tearfully admitted to Todd, Nina Lucas and Asha Alahan that she did it because she was terrified of going to jail.
The murder investigation also affected her faith. After losing Billy Mayhew, Paul Foreman and her biological father, Summer told Todd that she no longer believed God was with her in prison. She even said she was starting to lose faith completely.
Luckily, things finally changed when Tyrone confessed everything to Fiz Stape. Feeling guilty, he decided to tell the truth to the police. His confession helped prove Summer was innocent and she was released from prison.
Summer’s New Behaviour Worries Everyone In Coronation Street
Even though Summer is free, she is clearly not the same person anymore. The trauma of everything she has been through has changed her, and her friends quickly notice the difference. In upcoming scenes, Asha, Nina and Amy arrive at the Bistro and are shocked to find Summer already drunk.
They are even more concerned when they see her spending time with a group of men they had only met the day before. Summer ignores her friends’ worries and says she is going into town with her new mates. Asha, Nina and Amy are left deeply worried as Summer walks away with complete strangers.
They can see that she is trying to hide her pain, but her risky behaviour could put her in serious danger. The question now is whether her friends can reach her before she makes another life-changing mistake.
