Steve and Cassie show up for a swim, greeted by a nightmare: Bertie, dead and soaked. While Jenny runs around desperately looking for him in the house, they show up with the boy in tow, causing absolute panic.
Daisy, already in a state of heightened anxiety, strikes out at Jenny with an anger only loss and terror can provoke-reminding her that this might have been just like Tom. Jenny is devastated, wracked with guilt, hanging on by her fingernails as Bertie is rushed to hospital.
