Mick’s storyline in Coronation Street has been full-on since the moment he turned up on the cobbles. And now, after everything that went down with Kit, Lou, and the prison drama, his time in Weatherfield has come to an end, for now at least.
It Started With Kit’s Secrets
Mick arrived earlier this year, and it didn’t take long for things to turn messy. He had a serious grudge against Kit Green, and for good reason. Mick had gone to prison for something Kit actually did. That kind of betrayal doesn’t just go away. And then we found out about the affair.
Kit had slept with Mick’s wife, Lou, years ago, and Brody turned out to be Kit’s son. That blew things wide open and made everything way more personal. Mick then killed Craig Tinker, landed himself back in prison, and later escaped. When he came back to the Street, it led to a nasty fight between him and Kit. Things got rough, but in the end, Mick was arrested again. That scene was intense, and now we know, it was his last.
Joe Layton Says Goodbye to Coronation Street
Joe Layton, who played Mick, has now confirmed he’s wrapped up filming. After his final episode aired, a fan wrote on X, “I swear to god that better be Mick’s last scene #Corrie,” and Joe replied, “Affirmative. [I] loved my time on the cobbles!” So that’s that, Mick’s gone for the time being.
Fans had loads to say about his performance. One said he was “phenomenal” and that he managed to be “proper scary at times.” Another said they “loathed Mick from the start” and that he played the part “so bloody well.” That’s the kind of reaction every soap villain dreams of being hated in the best way. Whether Mick ever returns is anyone’s guess, but right now, it looks like his story’s done. And he went out exactly how a Corrie villain should; loud, messy, and unforgettable.
Lou’s Exit Is Up Next
Joe’s exit isn’t the only one lined up. Farrel Hegarty, who plays Lou, is also set to leave the show soon. She recently shared that she and Joe “came in together and will leave together,” and admitted she’ll “probably cry” when she films her last scenes.
So while Mick’s gone, Lou’s still on our screens for a little bit longer. With Brody, Kit, and all that family drama still bubbling away, it’s safe to say we haven’t seen the end of the fallout just yet.
