Coronation Street star Debbie Rush has taken an emotional step to honour the memory of her late son, William Rush.
Months after announcing his heartbreaking death, the actress and her family have launched a fundraiser that celebrates his life while supporting an important mental health cause that was close to his heart.
Debbie Rush And Her Family Honour William Rush With A New Fundraiser
Last December, Debbie Rush shared the devastating news that her son, William Rush, had died at the age of 31. William, who played Josh Stevenson on Waterloo Road, is someone whose kindness touched many lives.
At the time, Debbie said, “As a family, our hearts are completely broken”. And that “there are no words that can truly capture the depth of our loss”. She also shared that William’s “kindness and love will forever be part of his legacy” and revealed that he had been an organ donor. Debbie added, “William will always be loved, always missed, and forever in our hearts.”

Now, Debbie and the Rush family have launched a campaign to raise money for Andy’s Man Club in William’s memory.
As part of the fundraiser, they have also created the William Rush Sports Day. The event will celebrate his life while raising awareness about mental health.
William Rush Sports Day Will Continue A Family Tradition
The GoFundMe page explains that sports had always been a special part of William’s birthday celebrations. “Every year, William’s birthday was celebrated with something sports-related. This was something he truly loved. And it feels right to continue that tradition in his name.”

The family also shared the deeper purpose behind the event. They wrote: “Through this event, we hope to bring people together, raise money, and celebrate William’s wonderful life. Most importantly, we want to share a message that truly matters: it’s okay to talk. No one should ever feel like they are alone, and reaching out to someone can make all the difference.”
They added that they hope the fundraiser “encourages even one person to open up, to check in on someone they care about. And to remember that there is always someone willing to listen”. The fundraising page remembers William as someone who always put others first. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for more Coronation Street spoilers and behind-the-scenes updates.
