BIG MILESTONE! Corrie Stars Joins Salford’s 100-Year Celebration!

By Roy

Coronation Street has joined in to celebrate a very special moment for Salford. The OG Corrie city has completed 100 years since it was given city status, and the show marked the occasion through a cheerful tribute. Familiar faces came together to highlight a milestone that means a lot to both the city and the long-running soap.

Coronation Street Celebrates Salford’s 100th Birthday

Salford is marking 100 years since it officially became a city on 21 April 1926. The honour came because of its strong industrial background and its important location near the Manchester Ship Canal. At that time, the population had already crossed 250,000, which also supported its case.

Efforts to gain city status began earlier in 1926. Local leaders pushed for recognition by highlighting Salford’s importance.

Mayor Alderman Delves even hinted that an announcement could arrive soon, and discussions in Parliament added to the growing expectation. The decision soon became official, and King George V visited Salford to confirm the moment.

Salford has changed greatly over the years. It moved away from being known as a “Dirty Old Town” and grew into a place known for art, music, and theatre. Today, it is home to some of the biggest broadcasters in the UK, showing how far the city has come.

Corrie Stars Come Together For A Special Tribute

To mark the celebration, Coronation Street shared a video on social media. The clip featured Pauline, Catherine Tyldesley, and Aaron McCusker standing inside the famous Rovers Return pub.

The actors delivered a cheerful message, saying, “From the city’s most famous street, we just wanted to say, Happy Hundredth Birthday Salford!” Each of them ended the message with a celebratory cheer, adding to the joyful mood.

The show also included a caption that pointed out there is only one place to celebrate Salford’s 100th birthday, which is the pub on its most famous street. The post used hashtags like #SalfordCentenary and #Salford100, and fans quickly reacted with warm responses.

The connection between Salford and Corrie goes back many years. The show first aired in December 1960 during a time when the city was going through changes. Both the city and the show have grown together over time. Salford continued to develop, while Coronation Street kept telling stories about everyday life.
