Corriedale Sparks Streaming Boom For Emmerdale And Coronation Street
The Corriedale episode kicked off last month. The soap fans two soaps, Emmerdale and Coronation Street, merging.
John and Aaron’s car crash with Corrie’s vehicle led to a multi-vehicle pile-up where many characters from both soaps were injured. Furthermore, John shot Cain Dingle, who later learned that he had cancer. But Victoria ended up killing John.
Meanwhile, Corrie’s Billy died due to the explosion of the vehicle. Many other characters were also injured. Elsewhere, the sources claim that the soaps have received a huge streaming record with the crossover. The broadcaster has shared more figures for January. The special episode was the biggest programme of the month with a 5.9 million audience across TV and streaming.
Furthermore, both soaps have achieved their highest monthly streaming numbers, with viewership up to 48 per cent. Together, they reached 65 million streams. ITV said that it is ten million more than the next monthly total. Furthermore, January was the biggest month for streaming in ITV’s history with 383 million streams.
Kevin Lygo Is Thrilled!
This beat the previous record set in June 2024 during the Men’s Euros, with soaps, reality TV and drama driving most of the growth. Elsewhere, Kevin Lygo, who is ITV’s Managing Director of Media and Entertainment, also spoke about it.
He said that a strong drama lineup, two of ITV’s biggest soaps, Emmerdale and Corrie, along with their most popular show, Love Island, helped deliver ITV its biggest ever month. He also added that the new year is packed full of exciting new storylines.
