Times are truly changing on Days of Our Lives. One by one, the legacy families of Salem have been shrinking in size one after the other. We were already dangerously low on Hortons, and now it seems the DiMera clan is following suit too! In a latest turn of events, DOOL icon Thaao Penghlis has made a shocking announcement.
In a recent chat with the media, the actor who has played Tony and Andre DiMera for 40 brilliant years has decided to call it quits. Although it is not the first time that Thaao has exited Days of Our Lives as both – Tony and Andre, it sounds eerily final this time.
In recent times, we already have not been seeing either of the characters on the show. As they have been travelling the world. Yet, there was hope that at least one of them would return to inject some spice into the soap. But nope. according to Thaao, that’s not gonna happen again.
WE have seen Tony and Andre die and rise back from their graces numerous times on Days of Our Lives. Thus, the news of Thaoo exiting, and the air of finality looming over that decision is really hard-hitting. Especially, for long-term viewers who have grown to love the many shades of evil, humour and even romance that both his characters brought to the canvas.
“Things are changing with new characters and budget constraints. Some characters are not there any more. It’s time to move on and appreciate the time that’s been spent,” the seasoned actor stated to the media as the reason for his decision. Furthermore, he asserted that he is most certainly leaving the soap world, as their changes going on that he can’t discuss.
“It feels like it’s coming from somewhere else, maybe with a different writer. When people start taking you for granted, you change,” he concluded. Well, we have to admit, this is a great loss for Days of Our Lives. We are going to miss Thaao awfuly!
