A few months ago, rumors became rife that Days of Our Lives star Thaao Penghlis has left the long-running soap forever. We feared that there could be some truth in the story. However, we are pleased to report that’s actually not the case. The beloved actor is on his way back to the Peacock soap! And that too on a very special occasion!
Honestly, the timing for this news couldn’t be any better. Thaao Penghlis, popularly known as Tony and Andre DiMera, is about to ring in his 43rd anniversary on the soap. Yup! 43 years ago, the talented actor appeared on the soap as Tony DiMera for the first time ever. Interestingly, Tony arrived in Salem ahead of his legendary father – Stefano DiMera.
Shortly after making his presence felt as Tony, Thaao added another feather to his hat by bringing Tony’s cousin, Andre DiMera, to the screen. His wild ride as the double trouble has been historic and unforgettable ever since! Over the years, there have been many mind-bending storylines focused on Tony and Andre.
At one point, Andre started impersonating Tony, while the real Tony remained stuck on a remote island for TWENTY YEARS. That has to be one of the longest and most jaw-dropping cons in the history of all soap cons. We must admit, that Thaao’s portrayal in those scenes was phenomenal. Perhaps, that’s exactly why he is so iconic!
Tony’s on-screen pairing with DOOL’s Anna has also been immensely popular, and one that fans sorely miss. However, another great pairing was Tony/Andre with Stefano. As father and son, the duo always belted out some highly entertaining scenes laced with incredible performances. Together they were literally soap gold!
