EastEnders Takes TRIC Prize as Phil’s Journey Grips Viewers
This year, Walford wowed viewers with dramatic storytelling, from its explosive 40th anniversary stunt to surprise returns like Anita Dobson’s. The BBC soap has been on top of its game, and it’s not surprising that loyal fans voted in record numbers.
The crew and cast registered another notable win on their tally at the TRIC Awards night last September at Grosvenor House in London.
Steve McFadden and Phil Mitchell won the Soap Actor Award, outshining stiff competition from Beth Cordingly, Barney Walsh, and Jack P Shepherd.
Phil’s gong comes on the heels of a year with substantial highs and lows, with moments that spoke to his deteriorating mental well-being.
Audiences also witnessed him looking after best pal Nigel Bates, whose fight against young-onset dementia took a devastating turn this week.
The Winning Streak Continues!
This is the second successive year that TRIC has won for Walford at the British Soap Awards. They won eight there, including Best Soap, Best Single Episode, and Scene of the Year.
Villain of the Year, Best Dramatic Performance, Best Leading Performer, Best Comedy Performance, and Best On-Screen Partnership were some of the other notable awards.
Also scooping the TV Personality award was Bradley, Barney Walsh’s dad, who beat celebrities such as Alison Hammond, Ant & Dec, and Martin Lewis to the honour, while Barry Walsh departed empty-handed.
With back-to-back award wins, the soap demonstrates that it is hardly slowing down anytime soon. For more EastEnders spoilers and updates, keep following Soap Opera Daily.
