An EastEnders character meeting a tragic end just a year after a massive soap comeback is not something viewers are ready for. However, the iconic Zoe Slater who returned to Albert Square after two decades away, is now headed straight for a permanent departure.
In fact, backstage whispers suggest that bosses have planned a shocking and dramatic death to seal her fate for good. Keep scrolling to learn more.
Michelle Ryan Prepares To Leave The Soap After A Short-Lived Comeback
Fans of the BBC soap are reeling from the news that Michelle Ryan has been permanently ‘axed’ from the show. The actress made a highly anticipated return as Zoe Slater last June before signing a full-time contract in August.
However, bosses have now confirmed her permanent departure. In fact, reports have also suggested that Zoe Slater will meet a tragic death. The television network confirmed the departure after there were rumours that Michelle Ryan originally asked for time off before ‘quitting’ the soap completely.
A BBC spokesperson said, “We can confirm Zoe Slater will be departing EastEnders later this year. We wish Michelle Ryan all the best for the future. However, we never comment on future storylines as we don’t want to spoil it for the viewers.” Elsewhere, insiders claim that the final scenes were filmed last month. Hence, this means the dramatic scenes will be aired on television very soon.
Well, some backstage sources also claimed that the comeback felt somewhat flat. Hence, a section of the audience was also disappointed with the onscreen presence. Producers originally wanted to explore 20 years of complicated history between Zoe and Kat. Elsewhere, fans might remember that Zoe generated legendary soap moments. And it includes the famous argument where Kat Moon shouted, “Yes, I am!”
EastEnders: The Complicated History Of Zoe Catches Up With The Family
Before the original exit in 2005, Zoe was embroiled in the murder of Den Watts alongside Chrissie Watts and Sam Mitchell. And this time her return featured a fabricated story about running away from the loan sharks before the character got shot during a violent showdown between Jack and Ravi.
Later, when she was unconscious a flashback revealed that Zoe secretly gave birth to twins years ago. Next, we saw the arrival of Jasmine Fisher, her long-lost daughter, and Josh Goodwin as her son. But now the show bosses have promised that the final exit will not be a quiet one.
