There’s a poignant turn for the soap as it confirms that Denise will be diagnosed with AML. For weeks, there had been speculations from fans who noticed the character’s constant exhaustion. And now, the BBC has worked closely with Blood Cancer UK to ensure the plot is correctly depicted to the audience.

“It was vital to us that Denise’s storyline be portrayed with sensitivity and care. And we’re grateful to Blood Cancer UK for their advice in helping her tell this story accurately. As viewers follow Denise, we hope to shine a light on the realities and challenges of an acute myeloid leukaemia diagnosis. And also the impact it has on the person affected and those around them,” said Executive Producer Ben Wadey.

Elsewhere Blood Cancer UK’s Ceo said the storyline would specifically address how ethnicity can impact experiences. We know that being black and fighting AML often brings hurdles. Hence, the charity wants this platform to make a hidden cancer more visible to the public.

Helen Rowntree said, “It’s been a privilege advising the EastEnders team to ensure Denise’s storyline reflects the real experience of people living with blood cancer and those who care for them.”

Celebrating Diane Parish’s Two-Decade Legacy On EastEnders

EE/Diane completes 20 years in Walford.

This includes her terrifying marriage to serial killer Lucas Johnson and her involvement in “The Six” murder plot. In fact, the nostalgic marathon will also revisit her intense triangle with Jack Branning and Ravi Gulati.

For several weeks, Denise has been experiencing ‘unexplained’ tiredness and fatigue. Later, Sam Mitchell found her asleep at the salon. That’s when she urged Denise to seek medical advice.
