Julie Delivers A Tearful Tribute During A Beautiful Service
Our favourite Julie Bates is set to bid a heartbreaking farewell to Albert Square after Nigel Bates’ emotional funeral. As we know, the character had returned to Walford after three decades away. And it was to support her spouse through a devastating battle with dementia.
Now, the day of the funeral proved incredibly upsetting for the grieving widow. We also saw that she was struggling to find the right words to ‘honour’ her late sweetheart. But soon Clare Bates returned once more for the service. And she recalled an old poem Nigel helped her with as part of an English assignment during childhood.
In fact, in the writing, the Walford titan had imagined himself as an older person looking back on his life. Now, this creative idea proved to be the perfect solution. Hence, Julie read the verses aloud to a church filled with mourners wearing signature colourful ties.
Elsewhere, the service also provided immense catharsis for the congregation. And especially when Phil and Grant stood up to honour the legacy of their dear friend. However, soon Phil broke down completely and recalled how Nigel had saved his life amid a past mental health battle.
Is Julie Bates Leaving EastEnders?
After the beautiful service, the widow shared a poignant moment outside with Phil near the chickens to discuss the future. And that’s when Julie was able to reflect on her next steps. Hence, she ultimately revealed that she would be leaving the Square to return to Scotlandd.
She explained that the northern country is where the happiest memories of her time with her husband truly reside. Elsewhere, we have seen her friendship with the Mitchell businessman has been some of the most super work in recent memory. And it’s largely due to powerhouse Karen Henthorn’s performances alongside Steve McFadden.
For sure, departing will leave a massive hole in the show. But one cannot deny that she will leave an unforgettable legacy behind on the BBC One soap. Meanwhile, is this a temporary setup, and will Julie return later? Let us know in the comments section. For more EastEnders spoilers and updates, keep following Soap Opera Daily.
