It’s finally time for the most-awaited Night That Changes Everything storyline to commence. And it’s rolling on with an emotional bombshell that will shatter the Fox household. As we know the rest of the Walford community is completely preoccupied with celebrating Vicki and Ross’s wedding reception.
However, an isolated Denise Fox has received a terrifying medical diagnosis that could threaten her future survival. In fact, this narrative picks up immediately from the previous hospital cliffhanger. A specialist delivers a diagnosis of acute myeloid leukaemia, an aggressive variation of ‘blood cancer’.
We will see that the medical professional explains that the patient’s bone marrow is rapidly producing unregulated white blood cells. Hence, it actively crowds out healthy cells, ‘destroying’ the body’s natural ability to combat infection. Also, Denise is ‘traumatised’ by the severity of the treatment plan. She contemplated the devastating impact the illness would have on her young son, Raymond.
Next, as she is unable to deal with the situation, Denise declines an urgent telephone call from husband Jack Branning. Elsewhere, Jack is extremely confused by his partner’s prolonged absence from the local marital festivities.

As Denise wanted to stay alone, she headed straight to the Fox and Hair salon. And when she sees an online search regarding statistical survival rates, it triggers her psychological collapse. Fortunately, Yolande Trueman arrives at the business to check on her relative.
And she immediately notices the stress radiating from the hairstylist. At first, she tries to deflect the concern. However, the mention of her young son causes Denise to sink to the floor in bitter tears. After which she ends up confessing the cancer diagnosis.
Adding further Denise shares, “I feel disgusted bringing this into our home, my family, my friends. I’m ashamed of it. I’m ashamed of myself. Of what I’m going to become. Like a drag on everybody.”
Despite all this, Yolande stands by her side through thick and thin. She reminds her that she has fought more difficult battles than this and she will ‘win’ even this one.
