Fans crave female-centric storylines on EastEnders. But Bea Pollard is dividing fans after her latest antics pushed an unhinged female storyline into overdrive.
Some believe that the soap has crossed the line into cartoonish absurdity. However, others are in favour saying this drama is exactly what makes a soap opera entertaining. Keep scrolling to learn more.
Viewers Divided Over Bea’s Cartoonish Framing Plot
Many fans of the BBC soap are disappointed by the latest twists happening. They argue that the doll-mutilating, cleansing rituals, and blood-smering scenes have turned Bea into a cliche.
However, a large section of the audience is also defending the plot. They are calling it straight-up camp entertainment. They are pointing out that her over-the-top antics prove that the scenes aren’t meant to be taken too seriously.
Also, several viewers think her unhinged behaviour is perfectly believable. They compared it with the stalker storyline to viral real-life pop culture hits like Baby Reindeer. Many also note that society has plenty of people who act just like Bea.
Even those who find Bea irritating admit that watching her frame Billy was a more creative way to inject marital strife into the show rather than leaning on another repetitive cheating storyline.
What EastEnders Fans Are Saying On Reddit
A user said, “Just my opinion and feel free to disagree with me, but I’m disappointed with the direction they’ve decided to take with Bea this week. The whole collection of dolls, and cutting off the head of the “Billy” doll was one thing, even after that I tried to keep an open mind. Then, early this past week, we had the cleansing ritual, burning the T-shirt, Bea’s face looking ominous in the glow of the fire.”
Adding further, the person said, “By then, I started getting sceptical. Then came Thursday with the showdown with Billy, the raw meat on the floor, the blood smearing. Then came Honey’s “I think Bea has framed you for murder” and the final duff-duff for the week. By that time I was done. The whole thing was cartoonish and bizarre.”
Elsewhere, another shared, “I 100% agree when Bea was introduced, I thought it was going to be Linda realising she was a bully or something similar but now they’ve done this ‘Gone Girl’ rip off and made her out to be some crazy witch by the writers essentially making fun of Wicca in the episode before.”
Another defended her, saying, “I get your point and have wondered this too..but I can’t lie and say that I am not finding Bea losing her shit highly entertaining…and only because it’s fiction. For more EastEnders spoilers and updates, keep following Soap Opera Daily.
