EastEnders romance has always been a rocky road but a recent debate has exposed some truly cringeworthy pairings that viewers simply couldn’t stand. There are some bizarre age gaps and completely forced matches with absolutely zero chemistry. And that has driven soap fans to name the worst couples to ever step onto the Square.
The viewers have generated a list of the most sickening, weird and downright lazy hookups in the soap’s long history. Keep scrolling to see if your least favourite match made the cut.
EastEnders Fans Vote For The Absolute Worst Couples In Walford History
Fans of the BBC soap have voted for Honey and Jay as the absolute worst, and many are calling it an all-time mistake. Viewers point out that their romance felt entirely illegal and creepy, and it gave away too many mother-son vibes since Honey knew Jay when he was just a child.
Elsewhere, fans are uniform in their belief that Ian is terrible with anyone. However, many point out that his pairing with Denise was a major blunder. Some have even admitted that it was an oddly entertaining disaster, but most agree that Denise would never realistically settle for him.
Even the pairing of Mick and Janine has been criticised for having no spark. Viewers felt the relationship was entirely shoehorned in, much like the equally disliked pairing of Mick and Whitney.
Well, looking at recent storylines, fans are pointing out that Johnny and Callum also feel like an incredibly lazy match. In fact, people believe that writers seemingly put them together just because they are both gay. Meanwhile, Max and Priya are criticised as well.
What Viewers Are Saying On Reddit
A user said, “Jack and Tanya. Mick and Janine. I like all these characters but they had no chemistry as couples. Zack and Nancy were awful. Never liked Zack much. Nancy was great with Tamwar but her second EE was disappointing. She always had more substance than being paired with a wannabe Love Island himbo.”
Another read, “Honey and Jay felt illegal. Kat and Phil were a bit mismatched, but overall, I think it was like the writers plucked two names out of a hat and tried to shoehorn them together, unsuccessfully. Ian and anyone really, he’s not a respectful person to date.”
Elsewhere, a third wrote, “Probably some recency bias here, but: Johnny And Callum – I can’t stand what Johnny’s character has become and he has no chemistry with Callum whatsoever. Vicki and Zack again, no chemistry. Zack is just such a nothingburger character, and that was a nothingburger affair. Max and anyone- his return just confirmed everything I hate about this man, he’s the most selfish character ever and doesn’t deserve shit imo.”
