Clare And Josh Provide Comfort During A Difficult Day
Nigel Bates funeral episode featured the tear-jerking return of two former residents. As we know, Nigel died from pneumonia after a long battle with ‘dementia’. Now, his daughter Clare Bates and old favourite Josh Saunders have arrived back in Albert Square.
And the best part was that the returning characters made their presence felt immediately. It came at a time when Julie was struggling to write her final eulogy for her late husband. Elsewhere, speaking about the return actor Jon Lee said, “It was quite surreal stepping back onto Albert Square after so many years as it’s so familiar to so many of us. It was lovely to see my onscreen family again.”

Even co-star Gemma Bissix shared, “When I returned earlier this year, we always knew Clare had to come back for Nigel’s funeral. He meant so much to her, and it felt right to be there for the conclusion of his story, as everyone came together to say their final goodbyes.”
However, during that moment, Ian Beale had an ‘uncomfortable’ reunion with Clare. Some 18 years had passed since they had last crossed paths, and she blackmailed him. Elsewhere, one cannot forget the legend Phil Mitchell in all of this. So, Phil actually broke down completely after being gifted the deceased’s personal watch before the service.
EastEnders: Sam Gets A Dangerous Family Victory Amid Hostage Chaos
So things turned when crime boss Russell Delaney kidnapped Mark Fowler Jr. He demanded a massive cash ransom and a stolen family heirloom from the Mitchell siblings. And the brothers were in a desperate bid to free the hostage before the church service.

Hence, they diverted the funeral hearse to a secluded warehouse where a tense standoff unfolded. Now, Sam Mitchell offered up Nigel’s newly gifted watch as a temporary compromise to the criminal. However, a guilt-ridden Phil was forced to make the villain promise to keep it safe.
Soon, after successfully rescuing him, the family arrived at the church. And Phil and Grant delivered a moving tribute to Nigel alongside the rest of Alverrt Square. At last, Julie announced that she intends to return to Scotland. And it’s because she had the most memories of her late husband there.
