Aaron Opens Up About Representing Mental Health And Breaking Taboos

Actor Aaron recently opened up about portraying Ravi Gulati’s intense mental health battle. In the storyline Ravi receives treatment for complex PTSD in a special facility. Also, the actor acknowledges the cultural expectations that were placed upon him. Hence, he wants the viewers to look ‘past’ his character’s history to find empathy for the human being underneath.

Aaron also noted that many South Asian viewers might identify with him. Also, this diagnosis is from his long-term childhood trauma. Hence, it led to the symptoms of emptiness and risk-taking behaviour that we see on screen. 

The star also mentions that South Asian history often prioritises honour and resilience. So there might be times when mental health discussions feel like a taboo. In fact, Aaron didn’t overresearch the condition. It was because he wanted to ensure that his performance felt organic.

Also writers have been working closely with major charities like Mind and the Samaritans. They want to ensure the plot stays accurate yet engaging. Also, viewers recently saw Ravi’s dramatic decline. This included a desperate hostage situation at a pharmacy. Later, he even tried to attempt suicide after a car crash. 

It all began when Priya was driving Ravi and the family secretly to the hospital. Suddenly, Nugget suffered another seizure. Hence, Priya got distracted and crashed her car into Max’s. During all this chaos, Ravi secretly fled. Soon, Nugget and Priya found him trying to commit suicide. But Nugget promised his father that things would be fine. This way, he ensured Ravi got down,

Elsewhere, the actor feels responsible for serving the storyline emotionally since the show has a history of tackling difficult topics. According to Aaron even a character with a criminal past deserves a chance to heal from the trauma.
