Ricky Gervais has enlisted EastEnders star Natalie Cassidy, popularly known as Sonia Fowler on the BBC soap, for a new animated series. According to reports, Gervais, who is known for shows like Netflix’s Afterlife, is said to be working on the latest animated series about kittens. The Brit funnyman is all set to be making a new series about cats and we are sure it will be purr-fect. The 63-year-old comedian took to Instagram and posted a picture of a voice recording session with Natalie for his upcoming project. This news comes after the EastEnders actress was spotted beside Ricky and some of his After Life co-stars in the said picture.
While discussing the project, a TV insider told The Sun, “The project is still in its early stages, but Ricky is super excited as he’s always wanted to make a show about cats.” They added: “He’s a big animal lover, so mixing comedy and pets is an ideal combination.” The source also hinted at a star-studded cast, saying: “And with his star cast on board, it’s bound to be hilarious.”
While plot details of the project remain under wraps, the show is expected to debut on Netflix as a part of Ricky’s exclusive deal with the platform. BBC bosses have given Natalie the green light to fulfil her dream of working with Ricky.

The famous soap star has called the former Office actor a ‘God’ in an interview and revealed she was ‘desperate’ to meet him. Cassidy said, ‘My God is Ricky Gervais. I love everything he does. I think he’s amazing.’
As for her stint on EastEnders, Natalie’s character, Sonia, is part of an integral storyline currently where she and her partner are trying to get pregnant through IVF. However, things are not going smoothly for the couple because of their financial troubles.
