Emmerdale And Coronation Street Stars Hit With Pay Cuts!
The sources suggest that the actors from Emmerdale and Coronation Street are not happy with the development.
Reports claim that the stars’ pay will be reduced and some actors will lose a sixth of their income. Furthermore, many soap actors will do fewer scenes throughout the year. Meanwhile, in a standard soap contract, a star is guaranteed a minimum number of appearances in a year.
According to The Sun, trade union group Equity is involved, and it is said that the soaps were told about the changes last week through the mail. There was no consultation regarding the changes, so they are not coming into effect until August.
Elsewhere in recent years, many cast members have left Emmerdale and Coronation Street. Susan Cookson, Roxy Shahidi, Paula Lane and Natalie Ann Jamieson are no longer a part of the Dales. Meanwhile, Charlotte Jordan, Colson Smith, Paddy Bever and Shelley King have also left Corrie. Apart from this, at the start of the year, ITV launched a new power hour which shows Emmerdale and Corrie airing for thirty minutes each.
The Visual Quality Will Improve!
The bosses concluded that thirty minutes attracted higher viewership in 2024. Kevin Lygo, who is ITV’S Managing Director of Media and Entertainment, said that the soap viewers look for pacey storytelling. Thus, they are adjusting to the viewing habits. Thirty-minute episodes meet their expectations. The new pattern is in the DNA of the soap genre.
Furthermore, the ITV also aired a Corriedale episode leading to the multi-vehicle pile-up. Elsewhere, ITV’s executive producer, Iain McLeod, said that they will improve the visual quality of the soaps. There will be consistency in both of them.
