There has been development in the TV world. It has been announced that Sky has agreed to take over ITV in a £1.6 billion deal. This will bring together two of the UK’s most recognisable broadcasters. They will be able to compete with the streaming giants and YouTube.

Following this, there have been concerns about the future of Emmerdale and Coronation Street. Both long-running shows have been highlighted as the soaps that Sky will remain committed to over the next few years. Furthermore, ITVX will remain free to air. There won’t be any extra charges to watch the soaps, as the viewers won’t need a Sky subscription.

An official statement confirmed that ITV channels and ITVX will remain free to air. Soap fans can enjoy the shows along with major sporting events. Meanwhile, ITV Studios is a separate production company that makes Coronation Street and Emmerdale. It will operate independently.
