The cast of the ITV drama Emmerdale has paid a heartfelt tribute to legendary drag queen – The Vivienne. The icon, who also appeared on a special episode of the soap, was only 32 at the time of their passing. Vievienne’s real name was James Lee Williams, and they found fame through RuPaul’s Drag Race. They emerged as the winner of the series in 2019. Publicist Simon Jones confirmed The Vivienne’s sad demise through an Instagram post.
“It is with immense sadness that we let you know our beloved James Lee Williams – The Vivienne, has passed this weekend,” Simon wrote in the statement. He stated that James was an incredibly loved, warm-hearted, and amazing person. Simon revealed that James’ family is heartbroken by the loss. “They are so proud of the wonderful things James achieved in their life and career.” Simon asserted. He concluded the post by stating that they will not be releasing any further information about The Vivienne’s passing.
Apart from RuPaul’s Drag Race and the Emmerdale appearance, The Vivienne has many other achievements to their credit. They previously competed in the ice skating reality series – Dancing On Ice. They even appeared on stage roles as the Wicked Witch in The Wizard of Oz and The Childcatcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Speaking of her Dales stint, The Viv had arrived to mark the village’s first ever Pride celebrations. They opened the main stage for the show, then indulged the locals for a hearty chat.
Emmerdale Stars Pay Tribute
After the news of their demise spread, many celebs took to their respective social media accounts to pay their tribute to The Viv. Actress Ash Palmisciano who plays Matty Barton on the ITV soap wrote, “So sad to hear @thevivienne_. Such a nice person and far too young! Feel very lucky I got to meet you. Rest in peace lovely soul.” Meanwhile, Natalie Ann Jamieson, who plays Amy Barton, penned, “I can’t believe what I’m reading! Rest in peace, you gorgeous soul.”
