The soap producer added that they will explore the overwhelming feelings of isolation that many survivors experience. The storyline will also show the difference between the actual sexual assault and how many women in Charity’s position feel that it has been minimised, and what has happened to them as they feel like they have been raped. Sophie added that Charity’s resilience will inspire hope as she confronts what has happened to her.
Meanwhile, Emma Atkins, who plays Charity, also spoke about the storyline. She said that this has been one of the most demanding and significant storylines she has had to navigate as Charity. Everyone knows her as a tough, resilient character, but the trauma will show the deep vulnerability, which is hard to explore. She added that she hopes that the upcoming storyline gives others the courage to speak out or help others understand the trauma. Thus, the soap viewers are concerned for the character.
