Robert Sugden interrupted Aaron Dingle and John Sugden’s wedding, telling Aaron that he was making a mistake. They even kissed, but Aaron decided to marry the killer, John Sugden. Then Robert went to prison for breaking the law while the couple went on their honeymoon. John was relieved as Robert threatened to expose John Sugden’s dark secrets. John Sugden and Aaron Dingle recently returned from their honeymoon.
Although they had relaxed, the story took a turn when they returned and learned about the shocking news. John Sugden didn’t react much when he realised that the divers had found Nate Robinson’s body in the lake. As Nate was a member of Aaron’s family, he supported his partner. However, John Sugden saw something and was shocked. He found a letter from the prison addressed to Aaron Dingle. John knew that Robert would have sent the letter, so he immediately put it in his pocket.

Later, John tried to open the envelope, but Aaron Dingle saw him. Though Aaron read the letter, after some time he put it in the bin. He did so because his relationship with John Sugden means more to him than his past lover, Robert Sugden. He has realised that he can love someone other than Robert.
