Adam Thomas recently shared a surprising real-life story that left him feeling like he had been “robbed” by someone he had known for years. The former Emmerdale and I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! star opened up about the incident on his family podcast.
He revealed how a simple trip to a local shop turned into an unexpected dispute that stayed with him for weeks. Scroll down to get more details about the incident.
Adam Thomas Claims He Was Charged £100 For Sweets
During the latest episode of At Home with the Thomas Bros, Adam told brothers Scott and Ryan about the shocking moment. He explained that he had gone to a local off-licence to buy sweets for his children and only realized something was wrong after completing the payment.
“I got robbed!” he said. “So I went to [a] local off-licence, I was buying some sweets for the kids. And I went to pay for it and I paid for it, and I looked at the card machine, and it said £100.”

The actor said he immediately challenged the charge. According to Adam, the shopkeeper responded by suggesting he did not need the money because he had recently appeared on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!. The comment left him stunned and quickly turned a routine purchase into an awkward confrontation.
Emmerdale Star Confronted The Shopkeeper Over The Unexpected Charge
As he looked back on the incident, Adam admitted the situation caught him off guard because he had always enjoyed a friendly relationship with the shop owner. The pair regularly joked with each other, making the large charge even more surprising.
“I looked him dead in the eyes,” Adam continued, “Like, don’t get me wrong, I had banter with this guy, we have a little bit of a laugh back and forth and everything. I was just a bit caught off guard.” Adam went on to claim that the shopkeeper “would’ve taken” his £100 if he had not checked the card machine. At the time, he felt the charge had gone too far and told the man not to “take the piss.”

The disagreement became serious enough that Adam avoided returning to the store for several weeks. When Adam finally visited the shop again, the situation took a very different turn. He revealed that the shopkeeper was eager to apologize and had been waiting for the opportunity to return the money. According to Adam, the man explained he had only done it “as a joke” and “didn’t mean to offend.”
The apology changed Adam’s perspective on the dispute and helped ease the tension between them. “I felt really bad and at one point I was gonna go, ‘You know what, keep the money, it’s not about the money’,” Adam went on. The story ended on a humorous note. Adam joked that he later gave the shopkeeper his bacon roll and croissant.
