Bethany Platt’s latest chapter in Coronation Street has already sparked plenty of conversation, but it’s not just her on-screen drama that’s making headlines. Actress Lucy Fallon recently opened up about the moment fans accused her of giving away a major twist before it aired and her explanation might just change how viewers see the whole situation. But did she really ruin the surprise… or was it all blown out of proportion?
The Calm Before the Storm
Lucy Fallon, who plays Bethany Platt, recently made her long-awaited return to the cobbles after a short maternity break earlier this year. The actress welcomed her first child with footballer partner Ryan Ledson in January and has been balancing new motherhood with her career ever since.
Ahead of her comeback episode last week, Lucy posted a cheerful behind-the-scenes reel on Instagram showing her dressing room at the Coronation Street studios.
But fans noticed something, the name “Amy Cudden” visible above a nearby mirror. The clue might have seemed harmless at first, but soon after, speculation exploded about what it could mean for the show. Just two days later, Doctor Who star Amy Cudden made her on-screen debut as Becky Swain, the wife of Weatherfield police officer Lisa Swain.
That timing was enough for fans to connect the dots and accuse Lucy of leaking one of the soap’s biggest surprises of the year, unintentionally revealing a major new character before her official introduction.
Lucy Clears the Air
Speaking to The Sun, Lucy couldn’t help but laugh when asked about the supposed spoiler. She admitted she’d been baffled after being tagged in posts accusing her of “coming back after having a baby and leaking the biggest storyline in Corrie.” “I was like, ‘What the hell are they talking about? What have I done?’” she recalled.
Lucy went on to explain that at the time she shared the reel, no one outside the studio would have recognised Amy Cudden’s name. She meant it wasn’t really a spoiler at all.
“Nobody would have known what character that name belonged to,” she said. She added that “it wasn’t even a spoiler at that point.” The actress seemed amused more than anything, shrugging off the controversy with good humour. And if anything, the supposed “leak” only seemed to heighten excitement around her return to Coronation Street.
Happy to Be Home in Coronation Street
Lucy’s return marks her second major comeback since leaving Coronation Street in 2020. During her three-year break, she explored other projects, but now says she has no plans to leave again. She explained that while she once hoped to try her hand at more dramas.
It’s nothing compared to the friendships and stability she’s found on the soap. “I’ve gone back and it’s so familiar,” she shared. “I feel so comfortable, it’s consistent. I get to drive from home to work and then go back home to my children.”
While Lucy is content on the cobbles, she did confess she wouldn’t turn down on a fun challenge. Although she admitted Strictly Come Dancing might be complicated because it’s a BBC show. For now, though, it seems she’s perfectly happy balancing life as a mum and an actress.
