Craig Tinker’s brutal departure from Coronation Street has left viewers gutted. But star Colson Smith isn’t biding his time in the drama. He’s already landed a new role, and this one doesn’t include chasing villains on the cobbles.
Craig’s Last Moments Rock the Street
Craig’s tragic death followed his encounter with the increasingly unstable Mick Michaelis. What began as a regular traffic stop turned into tragedy when Craig received fatal injuries from a brutal attack. Viewers were left reeling, and so were his Weatherfield friends.
Colson revealed he’d known for a while that Craig’s story was wrapping up. With so many of his character’s connections gone, it felt like the right time to bow out. He admitted he was happy to have Craig killed off and confirmed he won’t be returning, not even for ghostly cameos.
Colson’s Next Chapter after Coronation Street, Begins
Wasting no time at all, Colson went on Instagram to share what’s coming up next. Standing in front of an enormous BBC logo, he expressed gratitude to fans and posted that he’s taking on a role at BBC Radio Leeds this summer. “Catch ya on the wireless in Yorkshire!” he concluded.
Co-stars on Coronation Street expressed their affection. Lucy Fallon posted, “big bad colson (bbc) x,” and Andy Whyment posted, “Love it mate. In the meantime, Joe Layton, who plays Craig’s murderer Mick, tweeted about a behind-the-scenes experience. On their initial encounter, Colson said, “I think you’re gonna kill me,” and Joe said he told him, “I think I might.”
Craig’s death is not the only goodbye. Daniel Brocklebank has announced that he will be leaving next year in a significant story. With departures mounting and fresh faces causing trouble, Weatherfield may have another turbulent episode ahead.
