Joe Gill Reflects On His New Role In Treading Waters!
Joe Gill sheds light on his character in the movie Treading Water. He plays Danny, a character who is released from prison and trying to get back on track. He is battling a drug addiction and also has a compulsive disorder. By mistake, he meets his past love, Laura, and becomes obsessed with her, leading to terrible consequences.
The actor Joe Gill shared that Danny is an interesting person who tries to control things that aren’t in his hands. He fights internal battles with a lot of self-conflict. These traits persuaded Joe to play Danny. Moreover, he is from Manchester and represents his people, so he agreed to play the role.
Joe added that Danny is the protagonist. But what he loves is that he isn’t shown as a perfect human being. He shared that Danny is just trying to better himself. The actor shared that there are many people whom we know in the real world will relate to Danny’s mental health issues. He shared that he often does his research to get into the mindset of his characters.
Danny struggles with OCD and intrusive thoughts, the taboo topics. However, he used his insecurities to connect with the character. Joe added that a lot of Danny’s traits were there in the script, but Gino asked him to play the role as he wanted to, and Gino picked up the best ones. He shared that they wanted to show OCD’s struggles by keeping the script as real and honest.
Danny Is Different From Finn!
He disclosed that they wanted to portray the people in the movie who aren’t shown enough in the British cinema, so they tried to keep the characters as real as possible. Treading Water was shown at film festivals, and the feedback was amazing. Joe shared how people liked the representation of the city’s look.
He shared that it’s a small budget film and everyone has worked hard. The actor reflected on how shooting a film is different from shooting television. A film has just one story to tell, unlike soap operas. His character is the opposite of Finn’s. He shared that he was grateful for both opportunities.
Joe reflected on his favourite Emmerdale storylines – the helicopter crash and the 2015 car crash. He loved playing Finn Barton and had fun on the sets of Emmerdale. He added that he still misses the village. Joe disclosed that though it’s been seen for years but he is in touch with his former co-stars, including Anthony Quinan and Mike Parr.
