General Hospital fans have been holding their breath. Ever since Jason Morgan was hauled away by the WSB in late March, Port Charles has felt a little emptier. But now, Steve Burton has finally broken his silence. The man himself has confirmed a return timeline, and it is sooner than many expected.

The Date Fans Have Been Waiting For

On the latest episode of his podcast, Stone Cold and The Jackal, Burton dropped the news everyone wanted. He confirmed that he heads back to set this June. Since General Hospital films four to six weeks ahead of broadcast, viewers can expect Jason on screen by July or early August. Burton was clear and direct about it. “Yes, I am coming back to the show,” he said. “I start in June, so I’ll be back for sure.” That is the confirmation fans needed. The speculation can finally stop.

Burton had earlier announced his break on Instagram back in February. He made it clear he was not sick. He was not leaving for good. The hiatus was always meant to be short. He wanted time with his new wife, Michelle Lundstrom, and their family. Rumors swirled, but Burton shut them all down quickly.

General Hospital News: How Jason Left Port Charles

Jason’s exit was anything but quiet. He was last seen in a tense confrontation with WSB agent Ross Cullum in late March. Jason was trying to leave town with Britt Westbourne when things turned dangerous. Cullum was about to strike Jason with an iron rod.

Then, young Rocco Falconeri grabbed Cullum’s gun and shot him in the back. Jason immediately stepped in and took the blame. He confessed to the crime to protect Rocco from any consequences. It was a selfless, classic Jason move. Now he sits in WSB custody somewhere in Jakarta, Indonesia, seemingly awaiting trial.

Like Father, Like Son?

Burton also weighed in on a topic generating serious fan buzz. Danny Morgan, Jason’s son, appears to be edging toward mob life on the canvas. From a character standpoint, Burton was honest. Jason would not want his son anywhere near that world. Yet, Burton also acknowledged the storytelling potential. There is something gripping about a son trying to earn his father’s respect. That “young buck” energy Danny brings could set up explosive family tension. Once Jason returns, those dynamics could shift fast.

General Hospital is heading into a summer that looks genuinely exciting. Jason’s return will not be quiet or slow. It never is. The circumstances surrounding his release from WSB custody remain a mystery. That mystery is exactly what makes this return worth anticipating. Fans have waited long enough. July cannot come soon enough. Stay tuned to Soap Opera Daily for every update on Steve Burton’s General Hospital comeback.
