It’s official that Home and Away won’t be the same without Lynne McGranger entertaining us as the iconic Irene Roberts! While fans are still letting the news sink in, Lynne has already planned what she’ll be doing next. Yep, the legendary TV actress is returning to her roots and swapping rolling camera for stage lights in an auditorium. Got it? Lynne is going back to theatre acting!
Home and Away: McGranger is Back to Theater Acting!
The Home and Away OG star doesn’t plan to hit the brakes after leaving Summer Bay. McGranger is going back to performing in theater because that’s where it all started. In a conversation with Woman’s Day, McGranger explained, “It [theater] has been in the back of my mind for so long.”
Last year, she bagged a role in Cruising with the Grandparents Club, which was a wholesome experience for the actress. Lynne couldn’t believe how much that stage experience made her fall in love with the art again. Additionally, it played a huge role in helping her decide it was finally time to leave the soap behind.
It’s not like McGranger won’t miss her time on the Australian soap since she has been around since 1993. Still, the H&A star isn’t like the ones who retire after finishing a journey that lasted for thirty years. “I am very excited to do more theatre and just be able to do more in general,” she continued.
Lynne is Keeping Her Options Open
And let us tell you that Lynne is looking at variety in her next roles. How about being a mentor on The Voice? Sure. “And I can kind of see myself on the news desk,” she joked. In short, the Irene Roberts actress is keeping her options wide open, and we are so here for it! “I’d love to maybe do some comedy and just be adventurous!” Lynne clarified.
Be it comedy, adventure, or theatre—we can already imagine the charisma she’ll bring to whatever she does next. However, McGranger made sure to leave with love before closing the H&A chapter. The star filmed her final scenes at the legendary Pier Diner and kept it sweet when it came to goodbyes.
Lynne acknowledged and thanked her cast and crew, saying that putting up a good show is a team effort. “You’re all amazing, and it’s been my great privilege to work with each and every one of you,” she added. In addition, McGranger felt “touched, humbled, and honoured” to have been a part of it all.
